Transparent SUV bashing
Hark! I do believe I hear some anti-SUV protests that have a ring of those
afflicted with unresolved reaction-formation issues. This is where someone
can't quite justify something they want so they bash it out of frustration.
Then when you call them on it they yell and deny and call you names...
just watch.
I unashamedly own a '92 Trooper that sees offroad experience every time I
drive it into the yard to wash it. Why buy something that weighs 4300lbs
and gets 18mpg? Because it will perform more of the transportation
functions than anything else I could find. It will take me anywhere and do
anything except scratch my performance itch. The nasty east coast winter
of '93-'94 was ho-hum to those of us with sufficient ground clearance, ABS
and 4WD. We made it up and down those steep, one-lane, icy roads in my
Annapolis neighborhood without pause. We pulled a huge trailer across to
Monterey last December without a problem. I've spent entire days at the
wheel and emerged a little flat on one side but still ambulatory. My
Trooper is the most trouble-free and most versatile vehicle I've yet owned.
Will it do everything? No... remember the design triangle and that cost
quickly gets out of reach. But I'd have another.
You see, if you do your homework and buy your transportation logically
rather than emotionally you can approach each morning's commute knowing the
worst problem you're likely to encounter are those who don't have adequate
equipment. Oh, and the performance itch... that's why I sought out my '87
5kCSq (Fuchs, Eibach, QLCC, HKS EVC, and more to come).
Regards, Gross Scruggs
