Part II - Motor blown on my 4kcsq :-(
First of all, thanks a bunch! I have said this before, but one of the
best things about owning a 142K 10 year old car is the excellent advice
that I get from you folks. I have friends driving Cherokees, BMW's,
Acuras and Explorers and none of them know didly about their cars (I
would not have known either without this excellent list), and can never
understand what I mean when I say that a Mercedes 2.3 or a BMW 318 would
be a downgrade for me from my 87 4kcsq.
Secondly, I went to my mechanic and he said that the connecting rod on
my motor broke at high speeds which messed up my whole motor (ripped the
cylinders I guess). I don't understand it all but there was piece of the
motor sitting by the motor which looked like a rod and oil splashed all
around it.
Thirdly, I did look at my other options, right now the 200TQ looks very
tempting and I still love the 928, but I am going to wait for a review
on both these cars in European car magazine. Maybe next year I might try
one of these, but I consider it sacrilegious to leave my 4k lying around
without a motor like a vegetable, so for now I am going to find a new
motor for it.
Lastly, I have already received some offers on 4k motors, but I have a
QUESTION for all the Audi sages. I have a 1987 4000 CS Quattro, the one
with the 5 cylinder motor, I think it is the 115hp motor 2.2L engine.
One of the peculiarities that my mechanice pointed out was that it has a
vacuum pump mount that is UNIQUE to this 5 cylinder engine, since he
showed me a 87 5000 engine without the vacuum pump mount. So according
to my mechanic my car can take any of these following engines
1) Audi 4000 5 cylinder engine 2.2 or 2.3
2) Audi Coupe 5 cylinder
3) VW Quantum 5 cylinder engine
So I would probably try to get one of these motors for it. I would love
a 2.3 5 cylinder motor if I can find one. My guy said that it would cost
me around $400 to get the new motor in, does that sound pretty fair? I
do trust him, but I would still like to get an opinion from you guys.
Again thanks for all the great help.
