Symptoms are:

Couple weeks back I went thru a car wash and had the undercarriage 
washed.  Car ran fine on the way home.  Next day, pulled out of the
driveway and when I hit 3000rpm almost exactly,  it was like hitting 
a rev limiter.

Engine completely shuts down and rev's dropped about 300rpm to 2700rpm
and bounced back up to 3000rpm repeatedly until I let off of the
throttle and brought the rev's down to 2800rpm or so.  Once the car
started to warm up it got better.  Once the water and oil temps were
normal.  It didn't shut down at 3000rpm but it still didn't have the power
it usually does.

I figured maybe the distributor cap got cracked, so I replaced the cap 
and rotor (Bosch) the next day.  No change.  

The 3000rpm shut down has slowly gone away over the last 2 weeks.  Now it just
doesn't have the power it used too.

EuroSport say's $695.- for Ignition ECU module will fix it.  I say maybe
but I'd prefer to experiment with less money :-)

Anybody got some better diagnosis here ? preferably cheaper :-)
