Here goes,
first, I snipped the original post to save some bandwidth...

The Koni's for the front of the ur-q and the front of the 4kq are in fact
different. However they both are available with external OR internal
adjustment.
The major difference is the diameter of the body of the insert. The
valving is of course very similar because the weight difference between
the 2 cars is within a couple hundred pounds, and that weight is mainly
related to the turbo and it's related hardware and the front suspension.
Also, the piston stroke of each insert is the same length.

The rear koni's for the 2 cars carry the same part number in my koni
manual. They both are internally adjustable only. No externally
adjustable model is available for the rear. However, the front and rear
inserts for the ur-q have the same body so you can in fact put the
externally adjustable front insert from the ur-q into the rear of the
ur-q or 4kq and adjust the damping as you see fit. BTDT.

About the adjustment dispute... The Koni's adjust for compression only.
But keep in mind all of the oil in the strut must pass through the same
seals so if you restrict one direction, it WILL have a residual effect on
the other direction as well. That is why it may "feel" stiffer in both
directions.
Koni does make double adjstable models where compression and rebound are
adjusted externally with seperate knobs, but these are race only
applications that are built with different internals that the inserts we
are discussing here. If you need more info on these, let me know, we
stock them.
