I know this won't make it any easier - but FWIW,

While staying in Yosemite a few years ago I noticed photos that the rangers
posted, as a warning, of a an xj6 that was totally destroyed by a bear. The
bear was able to rip a door off , get in and trash the interior. Apparently,
not knowing how to back out of the opened door, pushed out the opposite door
to exit. 

I'm really impressed with the A4's bear resistance!
