lift hatch strut replacements for quattro wagon

My name is Joel Skousen, Am a new list member from Utah, and this is my
first posting. My first car was an 70 Audi 90, which I really loved,
but alas, I could see the day when parts would become a real problem, so
I sold it. Then I had an 74 Audi 100. Still have an 80 Audi 5k diesel
(which without a turbo is a real "dog" for performance. Finally I have
a new (used) 88 5ktqw, which I found via the internet. Had to replace
the hatch struts on it, which the dealer wanted $360 each! Audi dealer
prices usually don't shock me since I have long experience there, but
this was really outrageous. After much searching, I finally found a
PROLIFT brand strut (No. 92122) from PEP BOYS that fits and works
perfectly--$35 each. It's overall length is 1/2 inch longer than the
OEM, when extended, but it does compress down to close properly. I've
got several mechanical things to tidy up on both Audis so I'll be
talking to you again. Thanks for being here.
