Clunks almost cured
And the winner in the "cure your Audi from annoying noises" category
is...
Me! :-)
Symptom: annoying sound of breaking metal from the right side of engine
compartment. Apparent while turning left after braking.
Cure: Tighten the RH steering rack mounting bolt! (It is well hidden
under the washer reservoir and tends to be overlooked)
I still have a little clunk from the LH strut area. After checking
and/or replacing every possible elements I'm convicted that it's the
shock absorber itself. The car feels soft and bouncy on the left front.
But it's a Sachs Super gas unit and it has only 20K miles. I understand
the roads here are in poor condition, but regardless I would expect an
expensive German element to last a little longer. Are there any units
that are supposed to be more durable? I'm beginning to think that the
best solution is to buy some cheap shocks if even the expensive ones
aren't gonna last long.
