<< Ken, you're right, there was a big debate on the list a while ago on how
to dispose of the sodium filled jobs in a enviromentally responsible

 filled valves is?

Sodium filled valves transfer heat to the stem to be absorbed by the oil,
much quicker than a normal steel valve. As the valve heats up the sodium
melts. When the sodium melts, and the valve goes down, the sodium goes to
the tip of the stem. i.e the sodium dosn't move but the valve does. When the
valves close the sodium valve head meets the sodium and heat is transferred
from the head to the sodium. The the valve opens, and the tip of the stem
meets the sodium and the heats absorbed is transferred to the spring retainer
then the engine oil...
