They moved the drain plug slightly higher up on the later trannies ...
voila!  It now has greater capacity although I'm not sure why they felt this
was necessary.  I was once told it had something to do with their switch to
Torsen center diffs but I've since seen a pre-Torsen 016 with the relocated
fill plug so I don't think that's the only reason for the change...
