Oil pressure warning lights and buzzer.

I have a problem with my oil pressure warning circuit. At 2100 odd revs (the
ceiling mentioned in Haynes for actuation of the oil pressure warning system)
the light and buzzer sounds even though the guage is reading plenty above 1.8
bar. Unless of course the guage plus circuit is faulty and the oil pressure
really is low..... sob sob. I suspect that to check the correct actuation of
the switch requires a multimeter?

Thanks in advance,

BTW the next time anyone changes the oil on cars with the oil cooler be careful
that the piece the filter screws onto does not come out with the filter. This
would not have been a problem if I had been doing this in daylight. As it was
darkness was fast approaching and I did not notice that the seal between the
cooler and the bracket had fallen off. After filling up with new oil and
starting the engine to check the oil level after the filter had filled, the oil
pressure guage began to plummet. Switching the engine off and checking the
engine bay I found roughly two litres of oil and a round piece of rubber
looking sheepish on the floor. This also leads me to suspect that the oil
pressure guage and associated circuit are not faulty and the 1.8 bar oil
pressure switch is. The problem with the pressure warning began before this
incident.
