I haven't built one myself yet, but I have looked at it very carefully to 
do just that.   IMHO you really should spend the time to fabricate 
aluminum end tanks and have them welded onto the core.   You should fab 
them so that they have smooth internal contours to maintain smooth 
efficient flow.   Welding will solve the problem of popping end tanks off 
the core at high boost.
