RE: 4000 exhaust problems... Help

You don't really need that CO tap tube to have the car running right
(it's only there for diagnostics), but you definitely need the oxygen
sensor. When the computer detects no signal from the sensor, it
defaults to a "rich" mode, which makes it run bad, and blow lots of
black smoke. It's meant just to get you home or to the nearest repair
shop. So, have that sensor installed and hooked up correctly, and
that should make a lot of difference.

With respect to the water in the exhaust, that shouldn't be a problem,
especially if it's when the engine is started cold. Some steam coming
     out is normal.

     Subject: 4000 exhaust problems... Help

     Hello All,
My 4000kcs has small amounts of water(I believe) coming out of the
     exhaust
when I drive it-how often I don't know. In addition to this, there is
     always
large amounts of "smoke" coming out of the exhaust. Also, I don't
     have an
oxygen sensor it has been removed, along with the Cap for the CO tap
     tube,
and an end cap has been put on the exhaust(in the spot where the
     missing
parts should be). I would like to know how does not having an Ox
     sensor, and
tap tube affect the running of my car and/or how might it in the
     future. How
hard is it to install a new tap tube...My inexperienced eyes missed
     this when
I purchased the car. Any answers and suggestions about how I can go
     about
solving this would of course be most helpful.
     Thanks, Chris
