FUEL PUMP / RELAY & HEAT
Gday from downunder
It's getting hot here in Oz, last Sunday (hot day ~30C) the car (1991
audi 90) broke down, fuel pump died, at least that's what I thought.
After waiting for road service the car cooled down and was able to make
it home, just a few kms away. Indicating the pump did not totally fail.
I replaced it the pump next day (Monday), and during the week it was not
so hot, I drove to and from work, today the same thing happened.
I checked the past postings re fuel pump and relays.
I checked the relay it looks OK the points were a bit pitted so I
cleaned them with fine sand paper but I am going to replace it on monday
anyway, just in case.
The car goes OK when its not hot but if its hot it can barely make 4km
untill the pump slows down, and I can hear zzzzz zz zzzzz zz zzzz from
under the car where the pump is located.
If I let the car idle in the driveway the pump does not want to fail.
The relay gets quite hot, too hot to hold your finger on it when I
remove the plastic cover.
Would any of you know what else to check for? Should the relay be
getting so hot?
I would appreaciate any help.
Please if sending private email , mail to mzvolane@sydney.ipex.com.au.
Thanks again.
