Annoying Problem with '87 5KCSTQ
I have been having an anoying problem with my '87 5KCSTQ ever since I
bought it, 2 years ago. Several new parts, and $1000 later, the problem
remains, and I am at a loss.
When making a right hand turn, I get a rythmic throbbing vibration
through the steering wheel, and it is audible to the passangers in the
car. At first, I thought it was a wheel bearing going, and thought
nothing of it. Latter, since it wasn't constant, but seemed to coincide
with the rotation of the wheel, I changed my diagnosis to the CV joint.
I replaced the 1/2 shaft, with 2 new CV's. Problem remained.
Rotated wheels. Problem remained. Decided, maybe it was the wheel
beering after all, so I had it replaced. Problem remained. While in
the shop having the bearing done, I'm imformed that the CV's on the
center driveshaft are shot, and really need to be replaced. Very
probable that this is the cause of the vibration. So I have the
driveshaft rebuilt. Just got the car back last night. Problem
remains. So I am at a loss.
To recap, new front right driveshavt (with new CV's), new front right
wheel bearing, tires/wheels have been rotated, new re-built center
driveshaft, but the problem remains!
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the vibration? Car is
going back into the shop next week, but I'm going to play with it over
the weekend. I want to make sure the car is in good shape for my anual
trip to Orlando over Thanksgiving (Hi Dave!).
TIA.
