error 2142
Gday again fellow Audi enthusiasts.
I managed the get the error codes dumped on my car as previously
explained.
Code 2142 was obtained, I checked the Bentley straight away, it said
$$$ knock sensor or ICU $$$
I felt my wallet in my backpocket move as I madly searched for the
location of the knock sensor in Bentley ..... It's next to cylinder
three, ..... looks like donut ......
I dive into engine bay and presto, the bolt holding the sensor on the
engine was totaly loose.
I tighten the bolt to 15lb took the car for a drive, dumped the codes, no
more errors.
Now the questions,questions,questions,questions....:
How come engine was still running even with the sensor so loose,
previously I noticed some roughness and pinging, was that the cause?
Is there some default timing the ICU uses?
Since then I noticed some improvement in engine performance. Maybe it's
only psychological.
Could the loose knock sensor affect the fuel pump relay in any way,ie
would it make it hotter?
I posted my fuel pump/relay articles few days ago.(Subject: FUEL PUMP /
RELAY & HEAT
Date: Sat, 01 Nov 1997 20:56:03 +1100).
My fuel pump cut out has not occured since then but I still have this
feeling in my stomach, will I make it home today?
Any comments welcome.
MarkZ from the land downunder. :-)
