coolant flushing

As winter is approaching, actually, I think I should have done it before
summer, I want to flush my cooling system.  Should I just drain it and
refill, or is there a way to flush it?  I've seen the Prestone kits in
the auto stores, but I dont want to cut any coolant lines.  Maybe I can
install it where the aux. coolant pump goes, temporarily.  When I had my
Jetta, I had the dealer "power flush" it one, and it ran much cooler. 
Has anyone done this before.  I want to get all that old "junk" out of
there, as I just installed a new heater core!
