Oh, yes does this sound familiar. The only thing is, a new boot seal 
is 40 odd gbp. Speaking to the owner of an 84 80 sport at Goodwood he 
said that he thought it was the boot seal that was causing his 
identical problem. After replacing the seal it turned out to  be the 
sealing around the rear lights. I don't know how much rear light 
seals are but I hope they are less than 40 quid.

I am hoping the problem will go away. Living in Swansea I doubt the 
symptoms will. I may well take up the offer the MAIN DEALER made to 
me of a new boot seal at COST! Yep, seems they don't sell many boot 
seals for mk two's and they were willing to sell it to me for 27 
quid. That was jsut before they sold me a new oil and air filter for 
12 quid. Also at cost, the bloke behind the desk said, and I quote, 
"That should save you a few pennies." I came to just before the 
ambulance pulled in to casualty.
