Paul,

On a couple of ur-Q coupes I have looked at,  the Ignition
feed (current trace 15) terminal connector that connects to
the back of the fuse box gets toasted. This is the main
ignition wire that comes from the ignition switch and is
inside one of the square plastic terminal holders on the
back of the fuse box. The other Ignition (15) terminals
that go out to the ignition coil, ECU may be toasted as
well. The turn signals, and tachometer get +12 supply from
terminal 15 as well. Try pulling all the square connectors
off the back of the fuse box one at a time and look for
scorched pins/connectors. 

You may want to consider routing some of the non-fused
current trace 15 supplies outside the fuse box for critical
items like the ignition coil, and ECU. Some people get
tired of replacing fuse boxes on these cars.
