Think it's new alternator time, comments?

Greetings all,

If anyone is interested in how long one can drive with a battery that's 
not charging well about 14 miles from home or 165 miles with windshield 
wipers and running lights and an occational application of head lights.

Whe I started the car for the return trip the alternator light was 
glowing slighly not full on for sure.  And than noticed that I had only 
10 or so volts showing on the meter.  Knew it was not going to be a fun 
trip.  But tried to complete it anyway.

So what now guys?  I think its the alternator.  Anyone with a quick 
check for me to verify and where best to get a new on?  I have my 84 
coupe standing by as a donner but did not want to go through donor 
surgery if the part was not right.

Any advise would be helpful.
