Javelina...

Judging from the responses I've received to my post, very few people know
what a javelina is ... it's actually been rather amusing to read some of the
guesses!

In any event, the javelina is a type of wild boar that lives in the desert
... they are about the size of tree stumps and nearly as hard! They seem to
survive most encounters with cars and have been known to charge after the
person who hit them when they stop to check their car for damage ... I can
confirm this personally since I was chased back into my car by one while I
was pulling the crumpled fender away from the wheel.

In the northern parts of Arizona, they do have deer as well as elk ...
friends of mine were driving home from the SCCA Solo II Nationals two years
ago and hit an elk at about 2am in the morning, wiping out the front end of
their Suburban tow vehicle. They ended up taking the race car off the
trailer and drove that home instead ... after they wired up the headlights,
of course. Trashed a set of race tires in the process, too.
