The original water pump in my '87 4kcsq was replaced (under warranty) at
about 45k miles.  I bought the car new, sold it before it needed another
one :)

something about German cars and water pumps...have replaced a water pump on
EVERY VW/Audi my family has ever owned except the current two:  my '91 200q
(53k miles) and my dad's '92 100s (42k);  heard too many stories about
water pumps and  Porche 924/944.
