Idle Accelerates in 88 5kQT

My 88 5kQT has an idle problem. The idle will suddenly shoot up to 2000 or 
3000 rpm. This problem is definitly related to the environment control system, 
for when I press the buttons on the control panel the RPM fluctuates. To get 
the idle back to normal I turn the environment control system off and 
sometimes the car needs to be shut down. (This is my first Audi and I just
