Re: quattro-digest V4 #1351
Audis-
I too saw the new A3's a few months back here in the LA South Bay area.
Very cool, but very Golf-ish as well.
I read a lot about VW competing with M-B, and Audi competing with BMW in
VWaG's new paradigm. I hope they're not comtemplating this for the U.S.
market. I mean, as great as it could be, the press leak on the V12 VW
luxo car sold in america wouldn't fly. Who'd go to VW and plop down
$75K--for A VOLKSWAGEN!?! Not trying to make a thread here, just IMHO
VW'd be better off sticking in the Honda/Toyota/Chevy/ETC marketplace,
and wouldn't DILUTE Audi's purpose, which as of two years ago IS FINALLY
taking off. Sort of like they're ORIGINAL plan--VW the economy cars,
Audi the luxo/sports cars. Like, oh I dunno, the sorta successful
Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, and Nissan/Infiniti relationships? Hey
Piech, pick up the Clue Phone!
Whew!
It seems the LAX/South Bay and Phoenix/Tuscon areas are hot beds of car
testing, hence my constant sightings of new/prototype cars (I quit
listing them because it's so common!) So, the A3, various
Michigan-plated test mules of all makes, electric BMW Z3(!), Z3s a year
before intro, A6s on a flatbed a year ago (with new Passats), and my
personal fave, the VW Concept 1 or New Beetle! T'was WAY COOL! (and VW
wants to sell the New Beetle with...don't get me started!)
