Perhaps it would be a good idea to make it obvious at the begining of a 
message if it is intended to be humrous. We should all remember that this list 
is open to people of all ethnic and national groups and among them will be 
people who do not use english (either UK, US or international) as their first 
language and as such may have little or no grasp of our humour. Even between 
the UK and US there can at times be a great divide, witness the number of UK 
tv comedy shows that have to be remade for the US audience and the number of 
US shows that fall flat in the UK.

It was only once I had read half of the compression test message that I 
realised with relief that it was meant as a joke, but seeing the responses on 
the list it is clear that a number of people took it at face value.
