Can't help with the reason for the 2K idle, but the "infamous sudden
acceleration problem" was a figment of someone's imagination.  All a
case of mistaken (pedal) identity.

This is the way it is designed.  The center vents vent outside air.  Close
them in the winter if you want warm air.

Yes.  Don't use white lithium grease.  Your bucycle lube should work fine.
