The center vents are setup to only blow cool air. The side vents are for
heat and ventilation. The sides are adequate to keep the car comfortable,
but in the summer when only the center vents are used, the AC can seem a
little inadequate. It's just the way it was engineered.

Another sign of an older Audi. The sunroof is slow and has been on every
mid-eighties model that I have encountered. Lubrication makes very little
difference, and from experience, can actually worsen the performance and
speed of the sunroof. I even replaced the motor on one to try and speed
it up, but there was no difference. Unfortunately you may just have to
live with it. I found that applying just a little pressure to the lip of
the roof toward the front, and helping it along a little, really takes the
burden off of the motor, and speeds it up. Do not apply too much
pressure, where you actually speed it up beyond the motors ability. Just
help it a little.
