Re: Going to the shops (long)

... from the description of your window episode I'll bet the prob-
lem is that you've got some broken wires in the loom that goes to
the driver's door. This is pretty common for cars of that vintage.
I don't know why it always seems that the window will go down but
not up? I wrote up my experiences on the '87 5kCSQ almost a year
ago ... I've seen others more recently.

If this problem does crop up again perhaps you'll be able to use
the trick I found. The connector for the window switch in the rear
door can be separated into two parts, one with 3 contacts and the
other with two. If you connect the 3 pin section the way it was
originally and revers the two pin connector you should be able to
make the window only go up and not down. Once the window is up
you can reassemble the connector properly, disable the rear window
switches and remember NOT to attempt to roll down the windows from
the driver's door in a snow storm!

Regarding your other problem with fogging windows ... I'm thinking
that this is likely to be due to a malfunctioning recirculate door.
One or both of the following have happened ... The vacuum servo has
broken loose from its moorings, and/or the mildly stressed recirc
door spring has broken. If you can't get the A/C to put air out of
the various ports you may also have some problems with the A/C pro-
grammer or its vacuum supply ...

HTH!
