Subject: Retrieving codes

I was wondering if my car can retrieve codes through the hvac head. I do
have a diagnostics program that I know how to operate and it works through
the tach and check engine light. Can anybody give me instructions and a
list of possible codes in case my car has a separate diagnostics feature?
