It would seem that was the case. A while back, about 1.5 months or
more, I still had my display unit blank as the 2 lights weren't working.
VW/Audi wanted to charge me US$2,500 to fix it by replacing the
unit and the circuit board at the back of the cluster. I took the
car to a local auto electrical joint and it cost me US$80 to fix.
Turned out to be a "burnt wire". US$80 is still a lot for the fix,
but less than US$2,500 from this C-rated (or lower) VW/Audi
repair/dealer joint. Anyway, the other day when I removed the unit
again to reset the switches to the previous position I noticed that
the clamping clips that fit on the plastic multi-pin connectors were
raised. I pushed them back in with a satisfying click. :)

On the back of the cluster unit, above the opening to the 3 pins, is
a small print showing 0% and 5.10% and some funky Deutsh "verds".
All pins were in the 0 position, pushed to the front of the car,
on the switches the 1 was exposed. I assume that was the null setting.
But all pins were definitely set to the OFF position.

Thanks. :)

Cheers!
