     This sounds very similar to the exhaust system on an '86 Subaru we once
owned.  Pipe within a pipe.  It needed some exhaust work done, so I traded it
so I wouldn't have to try to fix it.  (I'm still trying to forget all the
problems I had to fix on it's replacement........)
