91 200TQ UFO rotor question

Today I was working on a 91 200TQ that the owner claimed needed front
brakes. We have plenty of Audi customers but this is the only one with those
damn UFO rotors. All told, the bill was going to be just shy of $1000, as we
found the dealer to be the only place with the parts. 

I thought I heard on the list that there was a conversion kit for these. Can
anyone elaborate?? Does anyone know of an aftermarket source for these rotors??
Lastly, why the hell did Audi do something so stupid!?!?
