Audi 100 2.0 non-quattro manual gearbox

Having a problem (does anything *ever* go completely to plan with these
things ?) with fitting a replacement (second-hand) type AMK (aka 012)
gearbox into an '89 Audi 100: when it came to mate up the drive flanges of
the replacement box with the shafts, only then was it discovered that the
bolt holes on the flanges of the replacement box are M6 threads whilst the
originals were M8. The local Audi dealer denies all knowledge of M6 bolts in
this application, saying they have only come across M8. I cannot find out
exactly which model/year of car the `replacement box came out of, although
in all other respects, including part no. it seemed to match the old one.
One option would be to try to swap the drive flanges from the old box to the
new - I think they can just be knocked out, but rather than disturb the new
box in situ, I have access to machine shop facilities and am therefore
getting the ends of all the 12 M8 bolts rethreaded M6 and radiused back.
Would be very grateful to hear from anyone with any knowledge of this
strange variation. (The AMK is the '88 onwards gearbox, with the electronic
speedo drive).

Thanks

David
