Carbon fiber drive shafts

The answer: The later B4 generation 80/90 quattros (as sold in the U.S.) had
a carbon fiber section in the longitudinal driveshaft.  Not sure about the
earlier B3 generation.  My hazy recollection is that it had as much to do
with crash dynamics as weight reduction.
