I had a similar problem with my 86 5000 tq. It would have a low "humming
sound" at different speeds at first then later more consistent.
It turned out to be a wheel bearing. I have since replaced all of them.
To diagnose: try getting to a speed that makes the noise, then turn sort
of sharply in both directions. Then see if the noise is greater in one
direction than the other. The hardest part may be locating front vs.
rear.
