Re: 5000TQ value
Last winter, I bought a 1987 5000S Quattro (not turbocharged 130 hp
CIS-E-III)
for $2500. The dealer was asking $3600. It had a couple of problems
including a blown fuse in the stereo (found after I bought it) and the
climate control didn't work (no blower, dimly lit display). Also, two
power
windows didn't work, missing spare tire, leaky steering rack. The
display
was fixed with a different instrument panel dimmer switch and
by rigging the recirculate door that is behind the glove compartment.
The hose
had come off and the servo was broken away from the bracket.
I ended up replacing the blower motor after fiddling with it and putting
up with intermittent operation. Until I subsribed to the list, I had
never
met anyone who knew as much about Audi 5000s as I do. I live in
Cheyenne,
WY and no one works on these. As a result, he was getting "some VW
mechanic" to work on it. He claimed, "It's just a couple of relays.
It'll cost
about $20 to fix it." I didn't believe him. He wasn't in any hurry to
get the job
done and I had just totalled my 85 5000 so I needed wheels. That's when
I
offered hime $2500 as is and, after he argued that quattro was worth a
lot
of money, I drove it home. He had bought the car at an auction by
accident.
He had thought it was a turbo:-)
I'm sorry to bore you with the whole story but this way you know what
all was involved for $2500. I'd say, judging by the work done on your
car and the fact that it is a turbo, it should go for around $4500. As
you
know, you never get back the money from repairs unless you drive them
out of it. Hope this helps.
If you were in my area, I'd offer you $50 and hope you were desperate :-)
