RE: Washing engine
Berthann,
I believe I was the originator of that old thread. I had taken my car to a
touchless, high water pressure, car wash last winter and sat there with the
engine running through the whole process. When I left, I noticed the "Check
Engine" light flash. Phil Payne read a passage from one of the Audi manuals
which explained that any engine compartment washing with high pressure water
spray was only to be performed with the engine shut down.
As it turned out, my fault was reporting a bad oxy sensor, and the washing did
no harm. I still plan on taking my car through that car wash and I will be using
the undercarriage spray. I believe it to be safe, but I will not be spraying the
engine compartment there... I clean the engine at home, during nice weather,
with some Simple Green and some tlc.
