RE: turboing

Possible yes! Feasible, now that is the real question. I have long
thought that it would be relatively easy to use (mostly) OE parts and
create a turbo system for a 4kq. I know that statement is an over
simplification. The real issue is how to keep the engine alive, i.e. no
meltdown or pistons blown into the oilpan. There is at least 1 (that I
know of , prob more) aftermarket knock sensing ignition system (it can
be added to virtually any existing ignition system) that could be used
to control preignition under boost. You would still be real limited to
the amount of boost that could be run and the stock pistons still may
not be able to handle the heat and load of a boosted environment. The
engine internal should be upgraded to handle a turbo and if your going
to do that the cheaper and easier thing to do is stuff a complete I5
turbo engine in there. For years I had a good used turbo from a Porsche
2.0L 924Turbo that I kept think I could make work on my Audi cheap but I
gave up everytime I started to think the whole process though.
