90 Coupe hatch leak and corroded taillight assy

Ok, now that I have the Coupe the process of fixing all the little things
begins.

There is a leak in the hatch (?) on the passenger side that has allowed
moisture into the taillight and marker light assemblies causing the
contacts to rust. As the connections were rather bad and "crossed" to
other circuits there were some interesting effects when various
combinations of lights/turn signals/brake lights were on. ;-)

Anyway...

Has anyone else experienced a similar leak?

Did you replace the taillight assy or just clean everything up?

Were you able to clean the connector (female) or did you have to replace it?

Was the leak from the hatch or elsewhere (there are water stains on the
inside carpet just below the taillight)?

How did you fix it (the rubber hatch seals appear fine and the hatch closes
firmly.)?

FWIW - After about an hour of work I got at least the brake and turn
signals to work properly, taillights are still out though =(
