A4 recall woes

Hi,

I took my 96 A4 in for a regular service and the airbag recall.
The mechanic called me and told me they found a faulty 
control unit and they need another day or two to fix that as 
well. 

I haven't kept up with all of the digests recently, so I apologize
if it's a common or old issue. Just surprising that the repair wasn't
just a grounding strap. (and gee, I thought the control unit went
through a self check every time it was started.)
