Re: Cooling Fan Fuse - A Type 44 Wiring Upgrade
This may work, but be advised the upgrade has a tendency to corrode and blow,
even with the covering. This happened to me on a summer trip in Canada. The
car was fine in the morning, but by early afternoon the fusible link and
"fused" and no cooling, no warning until the car began to overheat when we
entered a small town.
Message, one still needs to open the covering and check the link periodically.
The car was an '89 200TQ and had approximately 120K miles on it at the time.
Luckily there was a very cooperative VW/Audi dealer in the town along with
some very nice private citizens. The net repair bill was only ~$40.00 parts
(fuse & coolant), labor, tax and a lost morning. While the dealer could have
really ripped me, they simply observed that this was a common failure that was
uncommonly inexpensive to repair!
