The German ur-quattro microfiche has some scathing comments about this gauge,
and specifically warns service personnel to ignore it at all times.

It was discarded in the 1988 ur-quattro, and gradually disappeared from other
turbo models around the same time.

As we all know, the only reliable boost gauge is 8" in diameter and sits in
the driver's lap with a hose laid through the window and the bonnet louvres.
