Is that my turbo doing that?

Hi!

I'm getting "noises" from the turbo side and alternator side of
my car. These are whistling noises. At startup there is a scratching
noise that doesn't last very long, but I think that is just 'cos
the car has stood still all night and oil has run off the components.
At idle (but not all the time) there is a low pitched whistle from
the turbo/alternator side. This tends to "rumble" a bit, by that I
mean it goes slightly higher in pitch then drops for a while then
picks up again then drops again and so on. Then when going at speed
I get whistling again from that side of the car. Sometimes it starts
off suddenly, sometimes it is there front pull off. It can't be
body whistle caused by mis-aligned panels. I was just wandering
if anyone was getting similar whistling. As of Friday, my alternator
has developed a scratching noise, I just guess I'd better replace it
sometime as precautionary maintainance.

Could it be a wobbling bearing in the turbo? Has anyone ever had
the turbo re-conditioned/re-manufactured? The next thing I can do
is take it to the turbo fitment centre and let the guy there test it,
but I know him and he is a shark and will tell me I need to replace
the damn thing and that he will do the job for me.
