Re: oil guage retrofitting
# The guy I bought my 84 quattro off had a urq in the garage with the guages off
# a coupe/80 sport installed in the place of the diff locks (displaced below the
# cluster) this included the oil pressure, oil temp and volts. It looked like they
# had always been there. I think he cut holes in some of the central console for
# the diff locker plunger and the indicator lights.
#
... on my urQ I bought a replacement diff lock panel and cut two holes
for standard VDO gauges on either side of the diff lock switch (push/
pull), two holes for the lock lights above the switch and 3 holes for
the LEDs on a Radio Shaft $5 electrical system tester which I use for
voltage. The whole thing looks pretty stock (IMHO) and I didn't have
to try to figure out how to extend the vacuum lines. I have heard
others have taken the rotary switch equipped panel from the 4kQ (AKA
80Q) which includes the LED bar-graph style oil temp and voltmeter.
I currently have an oil pressure and water temp gauge installed in the
console ...
I'll probably be doing the mod that installs a water temp gauge in
place of the urQ's boost gauge in the instrument cluster and install
a more accurate gauge in an extension panel somewhere ...
