     Scott,
     The insulating nature of the EM coating doesn't change depending on 
     whether the engine is on or off, you said it did?
     
     Coating the inside of the manifold, the inside of the turbo housing 
     hot side and the inside of the down pipe all increase heat in the 
     exhaust gasses and therefore velocity. I don't see any benefit in 
     coating the outside of these parts except maybe appearance. Yes, 
     coating the outside will reduce the thermal transfer of heat from the 
     manifold to ambient.
     
     A heat shield between the EM and IM seems like a very inexpensive, 
     effective step. I'm not arguing whether coatings are a cost effective 
     way of improving performance, just that they have their place.
