Lifter noice - A6

Anyone else have what appears to be valve lifter noise when first
starting up their 2.8 liter V-6's?  I seem to have a clatter for the
first second or two upon start up - which by the way seems to take a bit
long as it is (a couple of seconds of cranking) before firing.

Dealer is somewhat blase' about it, could take engine apart and not find
the noise... and it only happens when cold.

Heck, if they could decide what viscosity oil they put in it, it would
be great improvement.

Car is a 96 A6.
