Edmund's Review of the '98 A6
I got an A4 last year. I could have easily gotton an A6 instead - in fact,
it would have been two months quicker for a quattro, and about the same
cost. I didn't want one because it lacked stick and was slow, but at least
it looked okay.
Now they look hideous. Most reviews I've seen agree with me. It's still
slow too.
Given this, I agree with you that '98 A6 owners are not
performance-oriented. And that was more-or-less the point of the Edmunds
review too. Anybody who buys this car is definitively NOT the BMW target
audience, nor are they the audience Audi needs to cater to - fanatics, if
you will. The current audience might just as easily wind up in a similar
Oldsmobile, but an S4 audience will stay the course with Audi, much as the
urQ fans still have.
As I said, I skipped the A6. I'm addicted to Quattro, but even so, I'd
choose between a Suby awd or a 2WD BMW or Lexus rather than an A6.
