Final report ABS problems '88 5kCSQW

... just wanted to apprise the list of my final findings on the ABS
problem I posted before ...

The problem was resolved by replacing the control unit.  There was no
obvious failure inside the unit, but as soon as I installed the other
unit and started the engine the ABS OFF light extinguished.  The
replacement unit was from an '87, and both had exactly the same part
number, but I found the two large DIP packaged ICs inside had different
codes.  Does anyone happen to know if there were any changes in the ABS
algorithm in that time frame?  Both cars are quattros, and since they
both have the same external designations I'm not worried ... just
wondering.
