Auto Trans in V6 100/A6

I know the 3-speed autobox in the 5000s was prone to failure.  Dave
Head has said that the 4-speed in the 88-91 100s was worse (if that's
possible...)  Was the problem fixed with the 92 and later 100s? 
Someone's sig line says "92 100 on its third trans".  If you've had good or
bad experience with that autobox, would you email me privately?  I'll post
a summary to the list if anyone else is interested.
