91 Audi V8 Quattro for sale in Concord MA. (Follow up)
Back in early December there was a 91 5 speed V8 Quattro (Dark red mateallic)
for sale in Concord MA and a few people on the list looked at it and there
was a few excellent writeups about the car. Of course, I read all the
postings after I bought the car ;-).
I had the car for a while now I thought that I would post a follow up.
Problem noted earlier was
Oil leak at the back of the engine.
Wind leak in rear.
Rear window loose.
Bose rear speakers in backwards
Somewhat loose steering
Odometer reading was 14,700 and the car was advertised as a 47K car.
Well, I have just finished doing my homework on the car and have what I think
is the complete history.
I have talked to the first owner who owned the car from new to ~55K and the
second who owned it from 55K to ~65K when I bought it, so I think that
my mileage estimate is fairly correct. I finally got hold of the last owner
to inquire if he did the timing belt at 60K and it turns out he did it at
59K. Including the valves and the head. Jupp, the timing belt broke and took
both heads with it... He was not a happy camper and he traded the car in 3K
miles later for a Volvo All-wheel drive station vagon. As he said, with the
4th kid on the way..
Took the car to a glass place for the loose rear window and they R&R it
(Reseal and Reset) and told me that whoever did that the last time used the
wrong sealant. The first owner did confirm that the car had been hit in the
rear and you could see on the moldings around the window that the car had
been repainted. Did did not take care of the windnoise from the right rear so
I had them R&R the rear quarter windows to since they had been out and put in
with the wrong gunk to. Windnoise is now history. This car is so well
insulated and soundpropfed that this was really annoying.
The rearending also accounts for the Boose speakers being in the wrong way.
My biggest worry got resolved at my first oilchange today when we actually
found the leak in the back of the engine. It turns out that the valve cover
oil blow out hose had a hole in it. I suspected that it was the rear engine
seal so this was a BIG relief.
The somewhat loose steering magically disappered after I upped the tire
pressure from 28 psi ! to the magical recommended 38 psi..
I also put a K&N filter in today (33-2573).
This car is a blast to drive! When you get that tach above 4K you better hold
on to the wheel!
Next on the list is tires. It has Goodyear GT+4 and they are way WAY more
slippery than the BF Goodrich Comp T/A that I had on the 4000 quattro.
Any suggestions for tires?
Oh, the first owner bought an A8 after he sold this one. Guess he's happy
with Audi....
/Peter
Very happy with the car!
