89 200TQ Alternator Problem?????

My 200tq had it's alternator replaced about a year ago because it 
appeared that it had failed. The lights on the dash were lit up and the 
battery was not getting a charge. The alternator was replaced and the 
problem went away, sort of. From that point on everytime that the car 
was started the lights on the dash would stay lit up until I gave the 
engine a couple revs, then you would here click and the lights would go 
off, the fuel pump would start humming, and the battery would get a 
charge. It would sometimes be worse if it was wet outside, and I would 
really have to rev the engine to get the lights to click off.  Now the 
problem came back and the lights won't click off and the car was taken 
the garage and once again the diagnosis is the alternator. This for some 
reason does not seem right to me. Is there any relay that could fail 
that would cause the same symptoms?? I hope that someone else has 
experienced this and can help me.
